About IN-HOUSE Patterns

About the Pattern Maker

I am Alexandra, the owner and pattern maker of IN-HOUSE Patterns.  Like many of you, I've been sewing since I was a child.  Barbie was my first muse but I quickly began sewing my own clothing around the age of 12 which ultimately led to a career in fashion.  After obtaining a degree in Home Economics from the University of Saskatchewan, followed by a degree in Fashion Design from Ryerson University, I worked as a pattern maker, designer, and a fit technician for several Canadian apparel companies over the past 15 years.  The experience I gained while working as a fit technician for 8 years, along with the desire to tackle my own personal fitting issues, led me to develop the IN-HOUSE Pattern line.
IN-HOUSE Patterns are designed and developed with the intent to fit and flatter an average figure with a full bust.  The IN-HOUSE average figure is described as a proportional hourglass shape with a "D" bra cup.  One of the biggest and most important lessons I learned as a fit technician in the apparel industry is that measurements do not necessarily indicate shape.  I hope that this pattern line will solve many of the fit and styling issues that I know and understand exist for many women with a full bust.
IN-HOUSE Patterns are runway inspired and vintage influenced creating a perfect blend of sophistication, elegance, and style for the fashion savvy home sewist.  If you love to sew and are looking to add modern well crafted pieces to your wardrobe, check out the pattern collection at IN-HOUSE Patterns and be inspired to create.

About In-House Patterns

Fit and Ease

In-House Patterns are designed and developed with minimum ease for a sleek and fashionable fit.  Review the Size Chart carefully and choose your pattern size accordingly.  If your measurements fall between the sizes, choose the larger size, make a test garment, and tailor to your perfect fit.

Special attention has been given to fit an average figure with a full bust.  The In-House average figure with a full bust is considered to be an hourglass shape with a "D" bra cup size.  Don't worry if you don't feel you fit into this category, styling and design can be very flexible and I am happy to answer any questions about altering patterns for fit.

Seam Allowances and Construction Techniques

I strive for a completely professional looking finished garment and seek to avoid that "home sewn" look.  In order to achieve this, IN-HOUSE Patterns seam allowances and construction techniques are not the same as many other home sewing patterns.  IN-HOUSE Patterns are developed using industrial construction techniques which require very specific seam allowances.  This makes sewing easier and saves you time and fabric.  All of the information and assembly instructions are included with the pattern and have been adapted for your regular home sewing equipment.

Sewing Skill Level

While IN-HOUSE Patterns can be quite easy to sew, it is assumed that our customers have previous sewing experience.  Having a solid knowledge base in sewing vocabulary and skills will ensure greater success in achieving a professional looking finished garment.
