  • Blossom: A Little More Information

The new pattern Blossom is off to a great start!  It's incredibly satisfying to see that people appreciate all the hours of work that go into developing each pattern.  I can't wait to see your versions!  There have been requests for a little more information about the pattern and I am happy to answer those here today.

    Recommended Fabrics:

This pattern is pretty versatile for fabric but I recommend a woven, light weight fabric with some draping ability.  For my version of View A I used a soft silk and cotton blend.  This is about as crisp as I would recommend because the blouse has a bit of flare at the the hem which should drape softy around the body and not stand out.

Other fabrics I would recommend are silk crepe de chine, rayon challis, and silk charmeuse.  Of course you can use the synthetic versions of these fabrics with great success.  My version B is made from a polyester and spandex blend which has a hammered satin weave.  Spandex added to any fabric is a great feature in my opinion.

I've been considering making this up in a knit fabric too.  I haven't tested that yet, but I think this would work quite well.

    Sizing, Fabric, and Notion Requirements:

I think you will find all the information you need in this chart:

    Sewing Difficulty:

Super Easy!  This is a great beginner sewing pattern.  No closures and simple pattern shapes make this a quick and easy project.  I didn't time myself when sewing this pattern up but I'm pretty sure you could stitch this up in about 2 hours.

    Pattern Assembly:

One of the new features in this pattern is that you can print the PDF pages and simply butt the edges of the paper together and tape them eliminating the need to cut and overlap the edges of the paper.

Some of you feel this may be a disadvantage, preferring the overlapped edges for stability and gluing.  I'd like to hear more opinions on this because I make these patterns for you and want to make your sewing experience enjoyable.  Please comment if you have an opinion about this.

    Bust Cup Sizing:

This is also a new feature for In-House Patterns!  The Blossom pattern offers cup sizing!  Included with your purchase are the front pattern pieces for the A, B, C, and D cup sizes.  All of these front pattern pieces are in a separate files so you only need to print the cup size appropriate for you.
